Winter Weather Arrives in UK

Article by Suzanne Waddell

Winter weather has certainly arrived in the UK. While weather forecasters have said that it is rather unusual to experience two extremely harsh winters consecutively, this winter may well be much like last winter. As you may recall, last winter was quite harsh indeed.

The coldest winter in 65 years or longer was experienced by Ireland last year when the country was plunged into sub-zero temperatures. Throughout the months of December and January, much of the country was affected by snowfall. Such a prolonged cold spell also placed serious pressure on supplies throughout the UK. As a result, many consumers experienced higher oil prices in Northern Ireland.

Forecasters and experts have currently predicted that this winter might be the coldest the UK has experienced in quite some time. Such dramatic changes are associated with the rapid speed related to the Gulf Stream. Experts have indicated the Gulf Stream has been reduced to just half its size over the last couple of years.

Winter weather has already begun to arrive throughout much of the UK. The month of December has experienced a chilly but rather dry beginning with some bright and dry weather along with rain. Unsettled weather will affect much of the north-eastern and eastern portions of the UK. These winter conditions will continue to develop into the next month. The month of January can be expected to be quite raw with snow and sleet increasing throughout the region toward the middle of the month. The worst of the conditions will be once again experienced by the north and the northeast.

The continuing threat of wintry weather will move into the month of February through organised bands of sleet, rain and snow. The chance of disruptive snow will increase throughout the middle of the month. Some of the worst winter conditions are likely to be experienced during this time.

Given the prediction of weather similar to the preceding winter season, now is certainly the time to begin making preparations to ensure you are well stocked for the wintry conditions. Last year, much of the UK ground to a halt due to disruptive snowstorms and other winter weather conditions. As this winter is predicted to release much of the same conditions, it is never too early to make certain you have a sufficient home heating oil supply in NI to see you through the season. Rather than run the risk of running low on heating oil in Northern Ireland, it may even be a good idea to stock up on extra fuel.

Emo Oil is Northern Ireland’s leading home heating oil provider. Emo Oil allows you to order your home heating oil in Ireland online, allowing you to save money heating your home.
