Staying at a Bed and Breakfast in County Kilkenny

Staying at a Bed and Breakfast in County Kilkenny

There’s something about Ireland that can make one nostalgic, even for times in which one never lived. This likely flows from the nation’s ability to preserve their history while competing in the most modern of endeavors. Ireland is one of the most historically rich nations on Earth. If you want to experience this history, County Kilkenny will not disappoint.

County Kilkenny is very rural. There are vast tracts of land dedicated to agricultural pursuits and old traditions still endure here. Hurling, the famous Celtic sport, is still one of the dominant pastimes in the region, and is likely to never go out of style.

There are numerous ruins to explore which tell the tale of this important region of the nation in a very immediate way. The ruins of Kilkenny Castle still dominate the skyline of Kilkenny City. Looking out at the pastoral fields and experiencing the very relaxed lifestyle, one may have a hard time believing that this beautiful county has seen as much conflict as it has. Kilkenny, however, was once a center of power in the region and, as such, its fate was decided by the sword on more occasions than one. The vistas are easily enough envisioned being overrun by one army or another, as they often have been.

This ancient history is far more than a tale of conflict, however. The enduring architecture speaks to the ingenuity of these ancient peoples, who built structures that have withstood many trials, both of the environment and those brought on by men, for thousands of years. These ruins and monuments can be found throughout the county. A driving tour is highly recommended.

Staying in County Kilkenny is an opportunity to learn a great deal of Irish history in a very short time. Staying at one of the many bed and breakfast establishments is an excellent choice for those who come to learn, and explore, Kilkenny’s history. You’ll find the locals very willing to share the stories they’ve grown up with and having some of it explained in a very personal way will add a whole new spark of life to those ancient ruins found in such abundance in County Kilkenny.

Bed and breakfast accommodations can be found throughout the county at all price levels. You may consider making one a temporary base and setting out on daily excursions or touring several different locations and staying at different bed and breakfasts at each individual stop. Either way, you’ll be sent on your way in the morning with a warm breakfast in your stomach and having saved the time required to search out food at a restaurant. This, of course, will leave you more time to explore which is the reason so many tourists choose to visit County Kilkenny.

Plan a route in advance so that you can take in the sights you wish to see. Make accommodations, as well, so the end of the day promises a warm bed.

Question by Stephy151: Planning a Trip to Ireland?
I am starting to plan out a trip to Ireland that I hopefully will be able to take within the next year. I am looking to stay in a bed and breakfast, a bit of irish country side, but not too far from the city(most preferably Dublin). If anyone can suggest a website with a suggestion of B&Bs that meet this quality or personal experience. Also are there any hot spots or must sees that I should consider?

Best answer:

Answer by Orla C
How long will you be staying? Because if you want to see a lot of places, you’ll need several B&Bs.

Dublin is okay, but does not represent Ireland – even native Dubliners have said to me that they feel their city is very ‘English’ compared to the rest of Ireland. My advice: give Dublin 3 or 4 days because it is a historic location, but head west.

Websites: www.discoverireland.ie, www.local.ie, www.familyhomes.ie, www.hostelworld.com.

Be advised that outside of Dublin, public transport in Ireland leaves MUCH to be desired.

A Bed and Breakfast in Killarney

A Bed and Breakfast in Killarney

County Killarney, Ireland is one of the nation’s most charming, pastoral vacation opportunities. The county is remarkable for having a vast national park and an incredibly diverse ecosystem. The county is home to many small villages and towns and is particularly popular with those who want a very peaceful and relaxing place to stay while they explore what Ireland has to offer.

Accommodations in County Killarney include the usual hotels and motels but many visitors choose a bed and breakfast establishment for their accommodations. These establishments are run by independent proprietors who offer the classic “place to sleep and a meal” combination of services that has been popular for literally thousands of years. Some things never go out of style.

Bed and breakfast accommodations need not be luxury priced. There are great bed and breakfast establishments that offer accommodations that are quite affordable. The most high-end accommodations usually feature amenities such as private bathrooms and, in some cases, an apartment that is separate from the main house.

Many of these establishments are located in areas that, while they may not appear on each and every tourist brochure, are well worth visiting in their own right. Bed and breakfast establishments generally advertise their location along with their accommodations. Though you might be visiting County Killarney for the National Park or the famous historic sites, you may well find yourself rather entranced by the environs immediately around the bed and breakfast at which you stay!

Check to see what sort of meal accommodations your bed and breakfast offers. Some offer just what they say: a breakfast in the morning and a bed the rest of the day and night. Others may offer multiple meals, the flexibility to take one’s meals whenever they choose or be of the self-catering variety where some apartments are equipped with their own cooking equipment, allowing lodgers to prepare their own meals. Unless you have very specific dietary requirements, it’s highly recommended that you take the opportunity to have a home cooked, Irish meal, however. You certainly won’t be left hungry after the table is cleared!

County Killarney, because the focus of tourism tends to be around the incredible natural environment, usually has accommodations available at most times of year. Still, it makes sense to book well in advance of arrival. The wanderers of the past may have been able to enter just about any Inn and get a room and a hot meal. Today, tourists tend to be more well organized and relying on having accommodations when you haven’t made reservations in advance may work against your best interests. Especially if you happen to be visiting the more heavily-trafficked areas of the county, such as near the National Park and the MacGillicuddy mountain range.

Visit County Killarney for the incredible scenery and make sure you get the best in accommodations while you’re there. Even if you’re on a budget, you’ll get more for your money at a bed and breakfast than anywhere else.
